Frames from a documentary on the story of diamonds in Brazil. It was my first documentary as a colorist. It was hard to manage this amount of material because I’ve never worked on movies longer than 10’ before (it was around 60’). I worked with two kind of images: HDV clips shot in 2011 and telecined clips from 16mm films, shot in 1960. The clips from 1960 were very interesting and attractive but they had really messy colors. I tried to homogenize all the 16mm images adding a strong and contrasted look: dark shadows, heavily de-saturated highlights and brown colors in the mid-tones to emphasize the garimpo (diamond mine).
